Toronto Cyclists Union Fundraiser

On October 28th, Coco was delighted to perform at the Toronto Cyclists Union’s first annual fundraiser. The room was full of people as excited about cycling as we are. Our good friend Will Fisher put together an awesome band from Humber College to back Coco for the night — Olivier Clements on trumpet, Mikko Hilden on guitar, Collin Nealis on bass, and special guest Richard Underhill on saxophone.

We also created signs for the Cyclists Union from re-used bike boxes (thanks goes to Bep for all her help). As well, we created a limited-edition four colour silkscreened print especially for this event. There are still a few left. They can be purchased from Yvonne; yvonne@bikeunion.to

Nominations, nominations!

We just found Coco has been nominated for two East Coast Music Awards:

1. Female artist Recording of the Year
2. Songwriter of the Year

We’re all really excited and wish her the best of luck. A big thank you goes out to everyone who’s helped along the way. (I’m sure Coco has an exhaustive list…)

In related news, Coco was also nominated last month at the Nova Scotia Music Awards for:

1. Female Album of the Year
2. Jazz Album of the Year

Wow!

Just arrived back in Vancouver

Yay! we are about 2 hours away from launching my first newsletter, I love it. I’m currently sitting backstage at the Stanley Theatre in Vancouver in a room full of very talented women. Boys room is down the hall. I hear they have pizza… hmm, may go for a stroll and have a visit, a yummy visit!

I just flew into Vancouver this morning and I must say, it’s great to be back. I was hmm-ing and hah-ing about coming out to BC for this little 3 week loop of shows just yesterday. “Oh man, I feel like I just got home!” (living in Toronto now by the way) “I don’t wanna leave right away again!!”

But then I had a beautiful moment that chased my momentary pessimism away. I was standing on a corner feeling a light mist of rain and remembered that I will always have 3 homes (Toronto, Vancouver and Antigonish, NS). That light mist brought back about 15 wonderful Vancouver memories in one very welcoming moment.

Hmm, actually… I just wrote a song with Matt Andersen a few days ago. It’s called The Troubadour’s Dream and the chorus goes like this, “There’s nothin’ like comin’ home”
… and repeat!

be in Coco’s new music video

Coco is shooting her first big music video for the song Revolution and we invite you to be a part of it!

Here are the details:

date: Tuesday, November 17th
time: 12pm – 7pm
location: Swansea Mews (housing complex at Queensway & Windermere ave)

see the location on Google Maps

The concept for the video involves a marching band, protest rally and concert performance. We want as many people showing up and joining in as possible. You don’t have to come for the full day. Show up for 15 minutes if that’s all you can manage. Every person showing will make a huge difference. Come as dressed up or dressed down as you like. An extra special invite goes out to all cyclists!

Invite your friends to the facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=178665458749&ref=ts

Matt & Coco fall in love

Coco recently met singer-songwriter Matt Epp at OCFF. Hearing him perform, she fell in love with his simple, understated style. This led Coco to convincing Matt to fly across the entire country (he’s in Newfoundland the day before) to join her on December 12th at the Rio. They will be turning a few of each others songs into duets.

Matt was recently in Toronto and stopped by for a short rehearsal and photo shoot. I got some of their playing on video and will be uploading it in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s what the poster looks like. What a charmer!

update:

As promised, here is the video footage from Matt & Coco’s first rehearsal. I can’t wait to see what their show will be like!

I just finished screening a small batch of give-away cards this evening. Keep an eye out for them at the merch table at shows. Don’t hesitate — these will go fast and I didn’t make many.
