Just arrived back in Vancouver

Yay! we are about 2 hours away from launching my first newsletter, I love it. I’m currently sitting backstage at the Stanley Theatre in Vancouver in a room full of very talented women. Boys room is down the hall. I hear they have pizza… hmm, may go for a stroll and have a visit, a yummy visit!

I just flew into Vancouver this morning and I must say, it’s great to be back. I was hmm-ing and hah-ing about coming out to BC for this little 3 week loop of shows just yesterday. “Oh man, I feel like I just got home!” (living in Toronto now by the way) “I don’t wanna leave right away again!!”

But then I had a beautiful moment that chased my momentary pessimism away. I was standing on a corner feeling a light mist of rain and remembered that I will always have 3 homes (Toronto, Vancouver and Antigonish, NS). That light mist brought back about 15 wonderful Vancouver memories in one very welcoming moment.

Hmm, actually… I just wrote a song with Matt Andersen a few days ago. It’s called The Troubadour’s Dream and the chorus goes like this, “There’s nothin’ like comin’ home”
… and repeat!

Wabigoon show review

Hello friends… here is a mini show review that my second cousin Mary found in the Dryden, ON paper. I think there were about 10 people in the audience… ha ha ha. The smallest show of the fall tour for sure but the room was lovely to sing in. The place is called Pappy’s and it’s run by a really great guy named John. He cooked us up some fish that he had caught himself… yum

Oh yeah, the sound. It was one of those rooms where it sounded good to song on the mic and off. I did one song completely acapella and it was so much fun. Some rooms swallow my voice or squash out certain qualities of it. This room embraced my voice and made me feel like I could sing as loud or quiet or sweet or intensely as I wanted.

See you again Wabigoon!

: )

Coco

ps: He’s not in the photo but it was the excellent Michael-Owen Liston by my side that night… rocking that upright bass.

pps: My shirt says “Nerdy and Flirty”… of course!

fun with Matt Andersen and friends

Hello all. I’m currently in Halifax, Nova Scotia taking a few days to chill after a 10 week cross Canada tour and a recent string of 3 shows with Matt Andersen. The whole fall tour was amazing and exhausting and inspiring and looooong and lovely… ha ha ha, but more on that later.

For those of you that don’t know about Matt Andersen yet, he’s awesome! Writes great tunes and then sings plays the @#%& out of them. We had 3 amazing sell out audiences. Over 700 in Halifax… wow! So the concept for these shows was for myself, Ian Sherwood, The Hupman Brothers and Ross Neilsen (all amazing) to each play a few of our own tunes in the first set. Then we all got up together and played Matt’s tunes as a band. Ian and I were the horn section with him on tenor sax and me on trumpet. So much fun!!!

So if anyone needs some trumpet playing… it’s official, I’m pro now… ha ha ha.

And now back to lounging in my hotel room. I’m kicking it diva style this week!
